Get started
- Open Maou Console and choose Import Game.
- Select a compatible game archive, folder, or supported executable package that you are allowed to use.
- Wait for the game to appear in your local library.
- Select the game to launch it with the matching runtime.
You can also choose Wi-Fi Transfer to send game files from a browser on another device connected to the same local network.
Use the Web Player
The Maou Console Web Player runs complete RPG Maker MV and MZ web games directly in a desktop browser. It does not support XP, VX, VX Ace, 2000/2003, a standalone executable, 7z, RAR, or an incomplete game export.
Desktop Chrome is the tested and supported browser for the first release. Other Chromium browsers may work, while Firefox and Safari remain best-effort and are not release-tested.
- In Chrome or Edge, choose Open local game folder and grant read and write access to the complete MV/MZ web deployment. The game resources remain in that folder and are not copied into browser storage.
- If folder mapping is unavailable or you prefer an independent copy, use Import a browser copy and select a ZIP or folder.
- Launch the game from the local library. Keyboard and compatible gamepads use the game’s normal browser input.
During import or folder scanning, the player reads js/plugins.js and a bounded sample of active plugin scripts without executing them. The compatibility report distinguishes normal Web projects, scoped runtime adapters, warnings, and native dependencies that cannot run in a browser. A clean report is not a guarantee that every plugin behavior is Web-compatible; unknown plugin errors are reported locally instead of being hidden by global JavaScript patches.
If a plugin is optional and incompatible, choose Disable for Web Player in its compatibility finding. This changes only the in-memory plugin manifest for that game in Web Player; it does not edit plugins.js or any local game file. Re-enable it from the same report if the game depends on it.
4. Mapped games read and write saves in the game’s save folder. Use Saves to import, export, or remove valid .rpgsave or .rmmzsave files.
5. For a normal numbered slot or autosave, choose Edit to change gold, actor level/HP/MP, inventory, switches, and safe integer variables. System files such as global and config can be exported or deleted but are not editable.
The editor starts the selected game’s own MV/MZ save codec in a hidden, forced-read-only runtime. It validates a decode/encode round trip before replacing anything and creates a backup of the previous save first. Use Backups to export, restore, or delete these backups. Backups are kept until you delete them; view-only folder access permits inspection and export but not editing, restoring, or deletion.
The Web Player does not upload game bytes, saves, or diagnostics. Clearing browser data for play.maou-console.com removes the library, mappings, and imported browser copies, but does not delete mapped game folders or their folder-backed saves. If persistent storage is not granted, the browser may reclaim imported copies. Mobile use is best effort and does not include virtual keys.
Only open games you trust. Game scripts run on the shared player origin, and a mapped folder grants that origin access to the selected game directory. Game IDs prevent ordinary games from mixing files and saves, but do not protect against a deliberately malicious same-origin game. External connections are blocked by the runtime Content Security Policy by default, so plugins that require an external API may not work.
Supported RPG Maker games
| RPG Maker version | Runtime | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MV / MZ | Maou Console Web runtime | Available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. |
| XP / VX / VX Ace | Bundled mkxp-z runtime | Some games require the matching official RTP. |
Maou Console requires iOS 17 or later, iPadOS 17 or later, or macOS 14 or later. Compatibility can vary when a game uses custom plugins, scripts, codecs, or platform-specific behavior.
Import sources
ZIP archives and game folders are the simplest import paths. Password-protected archives can be opened where the submitted format and current platform support extraction. On macOS, 7z and RAR availability depends on supported extraction tools in the installed build.
An archive must contain a complete, recognizable RPG Maker game. Maou Console does not download missing game assets, plugins, scripts, fonts, or media.
Install an RTP
RPG Maker XP, VX, and VX Ace games may depend on an official Runtime Package, or RTP. RTP files are not bundled with Maou Console.
- Obtain the correct RTP from an official source under terms that allow you to use it.
- Open Settings in Maou Console.
- Select RTP and choose the import action.
- Select the matching XP, VX, or VX Ace package.
- Confirm that the RTP appears as installed, then launch the game again.
Installing an RTP does not add games to your library.
Use Wi-Fi Transfer
- Connect both devices to the same local network.
- Open Wi-Fi Transfer in Maou Console and start the temporary server.
- Enter the displayed local address in a browser on the other device.
- Select and upload your game files.
- Wait for the import result, then stop the server when the transfer is complete.
The transfer is direct between devices on your local network. The developer does not receive the uploaded files or transfer traffic. Guest Wi-Fi, VPNs, firewalls, or client isolation may prevent the devices from reaching each other.
Saves, storage, and diagnostics
Game files, save data, thumbnails, cache, settings, and diagnostics are stored in Maou Console’s local app-managed space. Use the game’s actions or Settings to manage supported saves and rebuildable cache.
If a game does not import or launch, use Maou Console’s manual diagnostics export before contacting support. Review the exported file and remove anything you do not want to share. Diagnostics are never uploaded automatically.
Contact support
For app support or privacy questions, email support@maou-console.com.
Include the Maou Console version, device and operating system version, RPG Maker version, import format, and the exact error message. Do not attach games, RTP packages, saves, or diagnostics unless they are necessary, you have the right to share them, and you have checked that they contain no private information.
Maou Console does not include games, a game catalog, downloadable game content, or RPG Maker RTP packages.
